Baldur’s Gate II: Enhanced Edition Wins Award

Best iOS Game 2013

We’re happy to announce that Baldur’s Gate II: Enhanced Edition won the “Best iOS Game 2013” at the 5th annual Canadian Video Game Awards. The show aired on November 21, 2014 and presented the nominations and awards for games released in both 2013 and 2014. You can watch the show here.

The show’s host, our good friend Mark Meer, the voice of Baeloth and Rasaad (among other roles), and face as well as voice of Alveus Malcanter, graciously accepted our award. You can see our win and hear Mark's speech here at 2:27.

Our spiky and rather heavy trophy now sits on a place of honour here in the office. Congratulations to the Baldur’s Gate II: Enhanced Edition team!

Leave a Review, Win a Prize

We’ve got three prizes to give away: a Baldur’s Gate II: Enhanced Edition t-shirt, a copy of the new Dungeons & Dragons Starter Set, and a copy of The Crystal Shard by R.A. Salvatore. All you have to do is leave a review of our company or one of our products to be entered to win.

The review doesn’t have to be positive; what we’re looking for is honesty. Leave a review on our Beamdog Facebook Page or on Steam for one of our games (BG:EE, BGII:EE, or IWD:EE). Then email a link to your review to alex@beamdog.com. Reviews must be dated January 13, 2015 or later in order to qualify.

(If you want to leave a review on a different site, like the App Store, that’s fine too. Just email us a link or screencap to enter.)

The contest runs until midnight (MST) January 22, 2015. Then we’ll randomly select three winners from the entrants and contact the winners by email (the same one you used to send in your entry). You'll have 72 hours to respond in order to claim your prize.

Thanks for participating, and good luck!

Contest Winners Announced

Prizes and Gaming

Congratulations to forum-goers bengoshi, skinnydragon, and Wonderboy 2402! By leaving reviews of Beamdog and our products, they’ve won a Baldur’s Gate II: Enhanced Edition t-shirt, a copy of R.A. Salvatore’s The Crystal Shard, and a copy of the 5th edition D&D Starter Set! We’d like to thank everyone who participated by leaving a review for one of our games. Keep an eye on the Beamblog for more contests coming up this year.

Here in the Beamdog office we’ve started our own 5th edition Dungeons & Dragons tabletop game. Some of our crew has never played a real tabletop session before and we thought this would be a good way to familiarize ourselves with the 5th edition rules. Amber, aka the BeamBard, took on the mantle of Dungeon Master but has yet to kill any of our characters. Not for lack of trying, though. In the two sessions we’ve had so far she’s thrown stirges, will-o’wisps, bandits, shadows, and gargoyles at us. Despite that, our little band of somewhat questionable heroes has persevered. In time we hope to live stream our D&D sessions, but until then you can read recaps and player notes on the forum thread.

Beamdog in 2015: The Year Ahead

With the new year upon us, we’ve been planning out our projects for the next twelve months. Here’s a sneak peek of what Beamdog is up to in 2015.

Adventure Y

This year, the eagerly anticipated Adventure Y will finally navigate the dark underground caverns of development and venture out into the Sword Coast. We’ve mentioned before that Adventure Y will be an addition to the Baldur’s Gate line using the Infinity engine, bridging the gap between Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition and Baldur’s Gate II: Enhanced Edition. Keep an eye on the Beamblog in late spring for announcements regarding the content and release date of Adventure Y. We have an exciting release planned for this game, something bigger than we’ve ever done before. If you’re looking for more information on Adventure Y, check out these pictures which were mysteriously leaked to the forums.

Adventure... Z?

By late summer we should be ready to talk about our next project after Adventure Y. “Adventure Z” sounds boring, so let’s call it Project: Beartrap. Right now all we can say about Project: Beartrap is that it exists and it’s a departure for us in terms of what we’ve done in the past. Also, the project might involve sharks. Maybe we should call it Project: Sharktrap? Either way, we’re looking forward to giving you more details mid-year.

Fifth Edition

We got a lot of questions about Dungeons & Dragons fifth edition and a potential Baldur’s Gate III on our reddit AMA. We’d be lying if we said we never think about doing a Baldur’s Gate III game, so we won’t say that. But we will say there’s nothing in the works yet regarding BGIII or a 5th edition game. That doesn’t mean the opportunity will never arise, though, so we’re preparing by starting a tabletop 5th edition Dungeons & Dragons game here in the office. Amber, aka the BeamBard, is our first sacrificial DM in running an office campaign. Expect future Beamblog posts on how she ruthlessly murderized all our lovingly created characters.

More project details and release information will be announced on the Beamblog as the year progresses, so check back often. You can also share your thoughts on the forums or follow us @Beamdoginc. Wishing you all the best in 2015!
