Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition!

Beamdog is excited to announce the return of a classic! Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition can now be pre-ordered on Beamdog or be wishlisted on Steam!

But first, a note from Beamdog CEO Trent Oster:

“Neverwinter Nights was a unique game that distilled the essence of Dungeons & Dragons and allowed players to build, share and act as Dungeon Master for amazing gaming experiences.I think this unique combination makes Neverwinter Nights one of the most versatile role playing game experiences of all time.

“I invite everyone interested in the future of Neverwinter Nights to join the Beamdog forums. We hope it will become a new home where you can speak directly with the development team. We need to know what YOU want to see Neverwinter Nights become, and we'll do our best to meet and exceed those expectations."

What’s included?

Dungeon Master Client: Become the storyteller! Control monsters, creatures, and characters your players will meet over the course of an adventure.

Can't wait? Get a Head Start!

We'll be selecting lucky fans from the pre-order pool on Beamdog for the Head Start program. This is your chance to play NWN:EE, dust off old modules, and update your persistent world servers early! Getting ongoing feedback from experienced fans will help shape the future of Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition, so let us know what you think!

What’s new? Enhanced Features!

We’ve added an improved display that looks great on modern monitors. Your portrait, combat bar, inventory, and other UI elements now adjust in size based on your chosen resolution and you can select what size scaling you prefer. We’ve also added Advanced Graphics Options! The added pixel shaders and post-processing effects make for crisper, cleaner visuals. Now you can choose to enable contrast, vibrance, and depth of field options as you desire.

These new graphic options are open to modders, and we’re already seeing lots of great content from our early testers. We’ve made an effort to ensure NWN:EE is backwards compatible! All your save games, modules, and mods from the original Neverwinter Nights work in the Enhanced Edition.

Check out this gallery of feature comparison screenshots.

And that’s just the start!

Beamdog’s team on this project is a mix of original developers and key members of the Neverwinter Nights community such as Bernhard Stöckner (AKA Niv) from Neverwinter Vault who have come together to curate important fan-requested improvements. Our goal is to support Neverwinter Nights players, storytellers, and modders with ongoing development.

There’s a lot to be excited about and we can’t wait to share more. Tune into the Beamdog Twitch announcement Nov 21. at 12pm PST for more details!

  2. I wondered if this was your plan. Well done! Is it too much to hope for a NWN2 update in the next few years?
I'm sorry you couldn't get the IW2 source code. This will probably be more popular anyway. I'm really excited that you guys have the resources to branch out from the Infinity Engine.
Any timetable on getting the 2.4 patch update for Android.

  7. This is very cool indeed!

    (here comes the "however" part:)

However, what about updating tilesets, models, textures, etc. while you are at it? I know that is asking for a lot, but it could make a loved classic looking good enough for a retro launch. A 3D-game is not like a stylized 2D-game, enhanching NWN takes more than enhancing Baldur's Gate and similar games.

I bet a lot of die-hard fanatics would come to volunteer aid for such a project. Why not raise the bar a little? It is either now or never.

  9. I cannot believe this is happening! I still gave the .mod file of my original Persistent World! This to brush it off and see how it holds up.

  10. Most liked comments from youtube:

1.So, what is the enhancement? Graphics looks the same 1 to 1, interface just as small as it is right now. 1080p is available already.

2.What's so enhanced about this? It looks the same as the original.

    3. loved the infinity engine enhanced games...but this just looks lazy. I wonder how many mods they borrowed from community and are making profit from.

Looks like the most cash grab thing Beamdog has ever done.

4.What Enhanced is about this version? I can't spot the difference in this video
    5. They've enhanced/changed the genitals of every single NPC so you can never assume anyone's gender.
Ngl, I have zero optimism for this. One of the fans that has kept with the series, even to date, but I honestly can't say this looks like anything the community hasn't already LONG since made better, over the last decade. The fact that they're charging $20 USD for a SLIGHTLY improved 15-year old game, where you can literally get the entire Diamond Edition on GOG for half that, is just stupid.

The only way I can see this being better in any way is if they actually ADD new stuff to the game, through the hardcoding that people could never really get passed. Like adding new classes, races, feats, spells, etc, to the vanilla game. Anything short of that is just uninteresting and boring for an "Enhanced Edition", and I really think Beamdog should start designing their own actual games, rather than just slightly remastering old titles.

  11. Please add party control, just like in BG, IWD, or NWN2 etc.

Also some community members created visible roofs for tilesets in the original game.

  12. As far as I'm concerned, you guys could not have picked a worse time to make an Enhanced Edition.

There's maybe one server I still log into with my 1.69 client, and that's very occasionally. Why would I ever want to buy an Enhanced Edition which isn't even compatible with that one server?

  13. Anyone know any nwnee compatible servers? only one working is castle defnse. I heard theyre coming outwith a nwnee server pack anyone know what kind of servers? I miss Capture the flag it reminds me of the good old days when my dad taught me how to play Nwn. then i moved on to DeX and How and so on.

    1. Arelith has been going strong with 200 player base for 13 years now. Also made the EE switch over. 3 servers large and as always RP based. Active Dm's and players.

  14. So, what is really enhanced? With IE games we have heard "lost assets" excuse. There are proper 3D games remasters including vast models, textures and animations improvements. This... is just a patch. Ridiculous cash grab. I guess we will see Beamdog selling more preimum modules in not so far future, will they be decent enough to re-buy the base game? I don't think so.

  15. What exactly is "enhanced edition here"? I see a patch, nothing more.
With IE games we have heard "lost assets" excuse, what is stopping Beamdog now? Lots of early 3D games have received proper remasters including vast improvements to models, animations, textures.
This is just a cheap cashgrab by Beamdog. I guess they start selling their own premium modules to milk the cow even more, but I guess they won't be good enough to re-buy the base game.
    I'm really disappointed.

  16. Can you guys please make the game based on 3.5th eddition rules? 3.0 is sooooooooooo lame. so many classes are not worth playing....

    1. I agree with Machado! I'd be very happy if you could play it based on the 3.5 rules. For me personally that would be most appreciated improvement that can be made to the original NWN.

I'd also like to say that the Witch's Wake adventure was incredible! If you could find the original writer/writers and finish this adventure, then I'd be really something extraordinary!

Many thanks for making an Enhanced Edition of NWN!

  17. Nice idea to enhance NWN, but 20$ is a good price for a new game with modern engine, not for an 4k resolution to low polygonal models. At the same time most changes on the NWN EE list are already done by community and can be used for free.

And the same campaigns? NWN Diamond costs now less then 5$, you want additional 15 and i can hardly understand for what.

You should probably think about lower price and special offers for people who already own NWN.
